On Wednesday, the Directorate-General of Public Relations (DGPR) of the Pakistan Navy announced the tragic loss of two personnel while they were on duty at sea. The individuals, identified as Shoaibur Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II), were fulfilling their responsibilities to maintain maritime security when they were martyred.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf, the Chief of Naval Staff, conveyed his heartfelt condolences regarding the untimely deaths, expressing sorrow for the loss of such dedicated lives. Senior officials from the Pakistan Navy attended the funerals, offering their support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
Operation Muhafizul Bahr Launched Earlier This Year
This tragic incident comes in the wake of the Pakistan Navy’s initiation of Operation Muhafizul Bahr in March, aimed at addressing the various threats facing national shipping and maritime commerce. The operation was a response to the heightened risks following the onset of the US-Iran conflict, which has raised concerns regarding the security of critical sea lanes.
The Pakistan Navy highlighted that approximately 90% of the country’s trade is conducted through maritime routes. This operation is crucial in ensuring that these vital pathways remain secure and free from disruptions, thereby protecting the nation’s economic interests.
