The honour marks the first time Samson has received the award, capping off a remarkable campaign that ended with India lifting the trophy. Samson started the tournament on the bench but seized his moment once drafted into the XI during the Super Eights clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai. From there, he scripted one of the most memorable turnarounds of the tournament. He first delivered under pressure with a stunning unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in a must-win Super Eights game in Kolkata. He followed that with back-to-back scores of 89 in the semi-final against England in Mumbai and the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. His consistency and impact in crucial matches played a key role in India defending their title at home, while also earning him the Player of the Tournament award.
