Karachi Police Detain and Release Families Protesting for Sailors’ Freedom
In Karachi, families of Pakistani sailors held hostage by Somali pirates were briefly detained during a protest demanding their release. The MT Honour 25, hijacked in April, holds sailors from Pakistan, Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka. Despite protests and diplomatic efforts, little progress has been made in negotiations for their release, which is complicated by an “ownership crisis.”
