Dutch Language Embraces Change with New Term for Labia
The Dikke van Dale dictionary in the Netherlands will include “vulvalippen” as a new term for labia, alongside the traditional “schaamlippen”. This change is part of a broader European movement to adopt more respectful language regarding women’s bodies, challenging terms that imply shame or stigma. Similar efforts are seen in Germany and Sweden, with campaigns for revised terminology in medical and everyday language.
