Powerus, an American drone manufacturer, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Army, which includes an initial order for drone technology, as revealed by co-founder Brett Velicovich in a statement to Reuters on Wednesday.
While Velicovich did not share specific details due to security concerns, he noted that the agreement pertains to unmanned aerial systems. He also withheld information about the financial value of the order, citing confidentiality agreements.
Details of the Agreement and Company Background
Powerus specializes in the production of aerial and maritime drones intended for military and industrial applications. The company is on the verge of merging with Aureus Greenway Holdings, a publicly traded entity associated with Donald Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump. This merger is anticipated to conclude in early October.
According to regulatory documents, the Trump brothers have a stake in Aureus through their investment fund, American Ventures, which is projected to hold a 9.9% ownership in the newly merged entity.
Meetings and Future Prospects
On Wednesday, a delegation from Powerus, headed by Velicovich, met with Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. Discussions centered on topics such as defense procurement, production capabilities, and long-term collaboration. However, the military’s communication arm did not acknowledge the MoU in their statement.
Andrew Fox, the founder and CEO of Powerus, remarked that the private defense sector in Pakistan is still developing, which presents opportunities for American companies to expand their reach. He emphasized the company’s intent to establish a technology partnership, integrating leading US technologies with those from Pakistan.
Clarifications Regarding Involvement of Trump’s Sons
Fox addressed speculations suggesting that the company’s expansion was influenced by the Trump family’s involvement, asserting that contracts are awarded based on merit and that the Trump brothers do not play a role in the company’s operations.
A spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr. clarified that he has no direct engagement in the management of Powerus and had no prior knowledge of the MoU or its negotiations. Eric Trump was not available for immediate comment.
White House Special Assistant Anna Kelly confirmed that there are no conflicts of interest related to this agreement.
