In Islamabad, law enforcement officials have apprehended four members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in anticipation of the group’s planned demonstration on September 27.
A police representative informed Dawn that these individuals were taken into custody on various charges stemming from a complaint filed by a sub-inspector.
The allegations include serious offenses such as attempted murder, criminal intimidation, rioting with a deadly weapon, and obstructing public servants from performing their duties, as outlined in the Pakistan Penal Code.
Details of the Arrests
Authorities received intelligence indicating that PTI supporters were convening at a property dealer’s office located in the E-16 area to organize for the upcoming protest. In response, a police task force was dispatched to execute the raid and facilitate the arrests.
According to police claims, the PTI activists resisted the raid, allegedly assaulting the officers, damaging uniforms, and holding them hostage during the operation.
Preparations for the Protest
In light of these developments, police and local administration officials have commenced strategic planning to effectively manage the anticipated nationwide protests initiated by PTI.
A meeting was convened at the Central Police Office in Islamabad to assess security protocols and devise a comprehensive approach to mitigate the impact of the planned demonstrations.
