In a tragic incident on Diwali eve, a 55-year-old man lost his life when a Mahindra Thar SUV, allegedly driven by a woman, collided with his electric scooter in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The accident occurred on Saturday night, drawing attention due to the circumstances and the timing during the festive season.
Accident Details
Eyewitnesses reported that the SUV was carrying two women at the time of the incident. The vehicle, which was reportedly speeding, lost control and hit several people before striking Santosh Singh Chauhan, the scooter rider. The impact was fatal, and Chauhan died instantly at the scene.
Following the accident, the women in the SUV allegedly fled the scene, leaving behind a chaotic situation that attracted a large crowd. The police arrived promptly after being informed of the accident.
Police Investigation
Upon reaching the location, the police took control of the situation, sending Chauhan’s body for a post-mortem examination. They identified the involved vehicle, which had “Krishna Group” inscribed on its rear end, and launched an investigation to uncover the events leading up to the crash.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Dileep Kumar Singh stated that a case has been registered based on a complaint from the victim’s family. He assured that legal proceedings are in motion against those responsible, with the investigation being conducted under his supervision.
Singh also mentioned that the initial information about the accident was received at around 7:30 PM. He confirmed the identity of the victim as Santosh Kumar Singh Chauhan and noted that contact has been made with his family for further proceedings.
Eyewitness Accounts
Rakesh Kumar, an eyewitness, alleged that the SUV was traveling at a high speed and dragged the scooter for a distance of approximately 25 to 30 meters before crashing into a roadside railing. This account has prompted the police to examine all aspects of the case thoroughly.
The authorities are actively working to locate and identify the women involved in the incident as part of their ongoing investigation.
The tragic event underscores the dangers of reckless driving, especially during busy festive periods. The police are appealing for anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
