TEHRAN: As Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi prepares for discussions in Iran this Sunday, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stated that the conditions for reopening the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz have been communicated to the United States through intermediaries.
Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran’s conditions have been clearly outlined to the US, indicating that until these terms are fulfilled and American commitments are honored, a return to the prior status and an open strait would not be feasible.
In a recent post on social media platform X, Ghalibaf depicted the situation as precarious, stating, “It’s Schrödinger: the empire is in the SOH [Strait of Hormuz] cabinet with falling plates, projecting hegemony but fully exposed, trying to suffocate Iran without blowback (impossible).” He further noted that the endgame in the current crisis is unpredictable, citing a report from JPMorgan analysts who expressed uncertainty about the future of the oil market amidst the ongoing tensions.
Iran’s Conditions and Security Preparedness
Mohsen Rezaei, who leads Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, previously mentioned that the country’s demands have been relayed to the US through the mediator Qatar. These demands include a cessation of hostilities on all fronts, the release of Iran’s frozen assets, and an end to the maritime blockade.
Rezaei has warned that the US should expect a more formidable Iran compared to its initial stance at the beginning of the conflict. He highlighted advancements in Iran’s military capabilities, including an increase in the speed of hypersonic missiles from Mach-6 to Mach-10, enhancements in air defense systems, and developments in electronic warfare technology.
The Iranian security chief cautioned that if conflict were to resume, US naval vessels, unless they retreat from the Indian Ocean, would be at risk of attack.
Warnings from Iranian Military Command
Additionally, the Khatam al-Anbiya central military command of Iran issued a stark warning that any missteps by the US in its dealings with Iran could result in relentless and severe attacks on all US bases and interests in the region.
This statement reflects Iran’s resolve and readiness to defend its interests, underscoring the tense atmosphere as negotiations continue.
