Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who currently serves as the permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, has been appointed as the new foreign secretary of the country.
FM Dar expressed his delight in a post on X, stating, “I am thrilled to announce that Ambassador Ahmad will be the next Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.” He conveyed confidence in Iftikhar’s ability to guide the Foreign Office, emphasizing that his leadership would help continue to promote Pakistan’s interests with professionalism and clarity. This transition builds upon the foundational work initiated by Ambassador Amna Baloch and her predecessors.

He praised her for her dedicated service during a pivotal time in Pakistan’s diplomatic history, noting, “Baloch leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service and carries with her our warmest wishes.” Following her retirement, Baloch is set to take on her new role as Pakistan’s ambassador to Türkiye, a position FM Dar is confident she will excel in.
