On Sunday, the Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) announced the creation of a six-member committee tasked with engaging political parties to achieve consensus on the agenda for a forthcoming multi-party conference (MPC).
This initiative by the opposition was revealed earlier this month, setting the stage for broader discussions. The new committee, shared via a post on the social media platform X, comprises several prominent figures: Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate; Barrister Gohar Khan, the Chairman of PTI; Asad Qaiser, TTAP’s Secretary General; Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, the Vice Chairman; spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai; and PTI core committee member Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
The primary role of this committee will be to engage in dialogue with various political factions regarding the proposed conference’s agenda, ensuring that all relevant parties are consulted and that a unified approach is developed.
Objectives and Focus Areas of the Committee
The committee’s responsibilities, as articulated in the official notification, will revolve around ongoing consultation and coordination efforts, all conducted under the supervision of TTAP leadership. The group aims to ensure that all discussions lead to a well-rounded and agreed-upon direction.
On September 11, the opposition had previously declared its intention to initiate talks that would culminate in the MPC, addressing critical issues such as the establishment of new provinces, the current law and order situation, and economic challenges.
Barrister Gohar, after a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam–Fazl (JUI-F), emphasized the urgency of holding such a conference, citing concerns over the country’s law and order, rising inflation, and the pressing need for new provinces as key factors necessitating this multi-party gathering.
