Cautious Start to Muhurat Trading as Nifty Holds Steady Above Key Level

cautious start to muhurat trading as nifty holds steady above key level

In the recent Diwali Muhurat trading session, Indian stock markets exhibited a cautious trend, with the Nifty 50 index managing to stay above the significant 25,000 mark. This special trading period, which occurred on Sunday from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm, saw investors opting for caution rather than aggressive buying.

Market Performance Overview

The Nifty 50 concluded the session slightly down by 0.03%, closing at 25,023.70. Meanwhile, the Sensex registered a modest increase of 0.10%, ending at 81,109.86. Both indices displayed a range-bound movement, reflecting a session without substantial shifts in either direction.

Despite the muted performance, the Nifty’s ability to maintain its position above the psychologically crucial 25,000 level provided some reassurance to investors as they entered the new market year. This session followed a series of gains over the past few days, indicating that investors were not in a rush to secure profits just yet.

Tradition Over Market Signals

Ajay Lakhotia, Founder and CEO of StockGro, emphasized that the Muhurat Trading session is more about tradition than market prediction. He noted that the new market year, Samvat 2083, began in a typical fashion with a calm and slightly optimistic tone.

“The session mirrored the usual Muhurat Trading pattern, closing around the 25,000 mark after a week of gains. It’s not a time for predicting market trends,” Lakhotia explained, adding that the session should not be overinterpreted.

Looking Ahead in Samvat 2083

The true test for Indian equities will emerge as regular trading resumes. Market watchers are keenly observing whether foreign investors will continue to show interest in Indian markets, the stability of crude oil prices, and the influence of the US interest rate outlook on global capital flows.

Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at Lemonn, remarked that the session reflected cautious optimism rather than strong buying. He stressed that the Nifty’s resilience above 25,000 shows some strength after the recent rally.

Garg further pointed out that the direction of the market in Samvat 2083 will largely depend on factors such as corporate earnings, domestic economic growth, foreign fund flows, and global developments, alongside crude oil price movements.

In the past week, favorable foreign investor flows and stable oil prices have supported Indian markets. However, Lakhotia cautioned that the sustainability of these trends will be more influential than the outcomes of the Muhurat session itself.
