The 2026 Toyota Glanza emerges as a premium hatchback that is closely related to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, sharing its foundational platform and engine options. This latest version introduces updated styling and features, including a new CNG-AMT variant. A thorough comparison with competitors such as the Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Tata Altroz examines their specifications, features, and pricing.
Dimensions Overview
In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai i20 boasts the longest wheelbase, while the Tata Altroz is noted for having the most spacious boot.
The Glanza and the Baleno are identical in measurements, sharing length, width, height, and wheelbase. The i20 slightly surpasses them in length, width, and wheelbase. When it comes to cargo capacity, the Altroz leads with a generous 345 litres, ahead of the Baleno’s 318 litres and the i20’s 311 litres. Although Toyota has not officially disclosed the boot space for the updated Glanza, it can be expected to be similar to that of the Baleno due to their shared design.
Engine Specifications
The Glanza offers both petrol and CNG powertrains, equipped with manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options.
The newly introduced 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine in the Glanza generates 83 horsepower and 112 Nm of torque in petrol mode, which is a reduction from the previous four-cylinder engine’s output by 7 horsepower and 1 Nm. The claimed fuel efficiency is impressive, rated at 23.80 km/l with the manual transmission and 24.77 km/l with the AMT. In CNG mode, power output drops to 70 horsepower and 102 Nm, with efficiency figures of 33.61 km/kg for the manual and 34.47 km/kg for the AMT. The Baleno similarly provides petrol and CNG engines with manual and AMT options, while the i20 is available only with petrol. The Altroz distinguishes itself by also offering diesel engines, making it the sole option among these four with a diesel variant, alongside the new CNG AMT availability in the Glanza and Baleno.
Feature Comparison
The Glanza has been enhanced with features such as ventilated seats and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), while the i20 and Altroz include sunroofs.
Key shared features between the Glanza and Baleno include a head-up display, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and a cooled wireless phone charger. Both models utilize a 9-inch touchscreen and traditional analog instrument dials alongside a multi-information display. In contrast, the i20 and Altroz come with larger 10.25-inch infotainment systems and sunroofs, which are not available in the Glanza and Baleno. The Altroz is also equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster. All four vehicles feature automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and wireless smartphone connectivity.
Safety Features
With the introduction of Level 2 ADAS, both the Glanza and Baleno enhance their safety credentials.
The facelifted Glanza integrates several advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warnings, autonomous emergency braking, and high-beam assist. Additionally, a tyre-pressure monitoring system is included. The Baleno also provides Level 2 ADAS, while all four hatchbacks are equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
Pricing Structure
The pricing for the Glanza ranges from ₹6.99 lakh to ₹10.98 lakh.
The Baleno is the most affordable option, starting at ₹5.99 lakh, which makes it ₹1 lakh less expensive than the Glanza. The Tata Altroz begins at ₹6.30 lakh, while the Hyundai i20 starts at ₹6 lakh. At the higher end, the i20’s N-line variant is the costliest at ₹11.64 lakh, followed closely by the Glanza at ₹10.98 lakh. The Altroz peaks at ₹10.75 lakh, and the Baleno’s top variant is priced at ₹9.99 lakh. Overall, the Glanza’s pricing positions it above its counterpart, the Baleno, at both entry-level and premium trims.
