The month of September 2026 saw a significant uptick in two-wheeler sales as manufacturers geared up for the festive season, with many companies achieving impressive double-digit growth compared to the previous year. Leading the pack was Hero MotoCorp, which reclaimed its position as the top seller in the industry.
Hero MotoCorp recorded total sales of 7,66,348 units, reflecting a notable 12 percent increase from the 6,87,220 units sold in September of the prior year. The company’s internal combustion engine (ICE) segment was particularly robust, contributing 7,10,436 units to the overall total. Notably, the scooter segment experienced a remarkable year-on-year growth of 60 percent. Additionally, the electric division, VIDA, reported a staggering 83 percent increase in dispatches, totaling 28,798 units.
Strong Performances from Competitors
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) also demonstrated impressive performance, achieving total sales of 7,06,266 units, which is a 24 percent rise from the 5,68,164 units sold in September 2025. The domestic market saw a growth of 26 percent, amounting to 6,36,768 units, while exports increased by 11 percent, totaling 69,498 units.
TVS Motor Company also recorded robust sales, with a total of 6,45,955 units sold, marking a 23 percent increase from the previous year’s figures of 5,23,923 units. In the domestic market, sales rose 17 percent to reach 4,82,073 units. The electric segment showcased remarkable growth, with sales more than doubling to 65,799 units, an increase of 110 percent compared to 31,266 units from a year ago.
Other Companies and Their Results
Bajaj Auto reported sales of 4,51,494 two-wheelers, which is a modest 5 percent increase from the 4,30,853 units sold in the same month last year. However, the domestic market faced a decline of 12 percent, resulting in 2,39,771 units sold. This was counterbalanced by a significant 34 percent increase in exports, totaling 2,11,723 units.
Royal Enfield achieved its highest-ever monthly dispatch with a total of 1,33,958 motorcycles, representing an 8 percent increase over last September’s sales of 1,24,328 units. Domestic sales grew by 7 percent to 1,21,326 units, while exports increased by 17 percent to 12,632 units. This surge coincided with the launch of the Himalayan 440, which is reportedly fully booked for the next six months, alongside the European launch of its electric brand, Flying Flea.
Suzuki also reported strong results, with total sales reaching 1,33,688 units in September 2026, an 8 percent increase from the previous year’s 1,23,550 units. The domestic market saw a slight growth of 3 percent, totaling 1,08,806 units, while exports surged by 41 percent, reaching 24,882 units.
