The drone reportedly crossed into southern Lithuania, near Kaunas, from Belarus shortly after midnight. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda confirmed the incident through a statement on social media platform X, stating, “A drone that just entered Lithuanian airspace was destroyed by NATO fighter jets.” The exact origin of the drone remains under investigation, according to a spokesperson from Lithuania’s national crisis management center.

This incident marks a notable event as it appears to be the first occasion where a NATO aircraft has shot down a drone in the airspace of Lithuania. Following the drone’s incursion, alerts were activated across the capital city, Vilnius, and its surrounding areas.
