The Pakistan women’s cricket team narrowly secured a victory against Thailand in the Asian Games quarter-final in Japan, advancing to the semi-finals by just three wickets. The rain-affected match was held at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, where Thailand batted first and set a target of 91 runs in 11 overs.
Thailand’s Strong Start
Thailand began their innings robustly, scoring 41 runs in the powerplay, thanks to Nannapat Koncharoenkai’s aggressive 24 off 22 balls. Pakistan’s Fatima Sana made an early breakthrough by dismissing Natthakan Chantham for six runs. Despite this, Koncharoenkai and Phannita Maya formed a crucial 65-run partnership, propelling Thailand to a promising position.
Thailand’s innings saw some fielding lapses from Pakistan, including a missed catch by wicket-keeper Gul Feroza, which allowed Thailand to reach 72 runs by the ninth over. Maya retired out after scoring 15 off 16 balls, and Nauremol Chaiwai added quick runs with a six and a four before being caught by Fatima off Nashra Sandhu’s bowling.
Pakistan’s Challenging Chase
Chasing 91, Pakistan’s openers Shawal Zulfiqar and Gul Feroza provided a quick start with boundaries in the initial overs. Shawal scored 25 off 14 balls before being caught and bowled by Onnicha Kamchomphu, sparking a collapse where Pakistan lost four wickets in quick succession.
Ayesha Zafar and Aliya Riaz were dismissed cheaply, leaving Pakistan in a precarious position at 47-4. However, Fatima Sana shifted the momentum by hitting successive boundaries in the ninth over. Despite losing her wicket soon after, Pakistan managed to keep the chase alive.
Tuba Hassan’s crucial hits in the 10th over reduced the required run rate, and eventually, Umm-e-Hani and Eman Naseer guided Pakistan to victory in the final over.

With this win, Pakistan moves forward to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the Malaysia vs. Sri Lanka match. Meanwhile, Bangladesh advanced to the semi-finals after their quarter-final against China was canceled due to weather conditions, and will play against the winner of India vs. Japan.
