In a series of operations conducted in the Panjgur and Chagai districts of Balochistan, security forces successfully eliminated 11 terrorists, as reported by the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan on Saturday. These operations formed part of the ongoing Operation Raddul Fitna 3, which aims to counter terrorist activities in the region.
During the mission in Panjgur’s Gowargo area, security personnel neutralized five terrorists and seized a substantial amount of weapons and ammunition. Concurrently, in Chagai’s Aminabad and Siah Chang areas, six terrorists were killed, alongside the recovery of a significant cache of arms and explosives.
Government Response and Context
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for their effective operations against terrorism. He noted that these actions reflect the commitment of the armed forces to national security, emphasizing their role in thwarting terrorist plans. Naqvi underscored that the successful operations illustrate the determination of security forces to confront threats and ensure stability within the province.
Balochistan has recently seen a surge in terrorist activity, which has prompted a significant increase in counter-terrorism efforts by security forces. According to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, the number of terrorist incidents rose from 83 in July to 89 in August, marking a seven percent increase.
Recent Incidents Highlighting the Security Situation
On the night of August 31 to September 1, a coordinated attack was carried out by terrorists from the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on the Customs House at Ziarat Cross, located along the N-50 National Highway in Pishin district. In response, security forces engaged the attackers, resulting in the deaths of 10 militants, although the exchange of gunfire also claimed the lives of two officers among six casualties.
Earlier on the same day, 11 terrorists from Fitna-al-Hindustan were neutralized after they had established an illegal checkpoint on the N-40 Quetta-Taftan highway, obstructing traffic for extortion purposes in Chagai’s Nokcha area. Following an intense gunfight, the militants were eliminated.
On September 2, an intelligence-based operation in Kalat resulted in the deaths of 12 terrorists. Subsequent operations in Kharan and Washuk districts led to the elimination of 11 militants and the recovery of 2.9 tonnes of explosives. The Inter-Services Public Relations reported that in the days following, 36 terrorists were neutralized in multiple high-tempo operations across Mastung, Quetta, Kalat, and Sibi, which included foiling an attack on a police station in Sibi’s Bhag region.
Just days ago, security forces also killed seven terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Badrang, located in Awaran district, followed by another seven during operations in Panjgur and Kachhi districts. These developments illustrate the ongoing efforts to enhance security and combat terrorism in the region.
