In a significant development for the electric vehicle sector, VinFast has officially entered the Indian market in 2025, focusing on the distribution, manufacturing, and assembly of electric cars. The company showcased a range of e-scooters at the Auto Expo, followed by securing patents for several of these models within the Indian market, signaling its intent to tap into the expansive two-wheeler segment.
Recently, VinFast has taken a crucial step by signing letters of intent (LOIs) and forming partnerships with a variety of electric two-wheeler dealers. This marks a vital new chapter in the company’s growth strategy in India, as it aims to establish a robust presence in this competitive landscape.
Expansion Plans and Showroom Network
To facilitate its entry into the Indian two-wheeler market, VinFast has partnered with over 50 electric two-wheeler dealers across 15 states. The company’s ambitious plan includes the establishment of a retail network comprising more than 50 showrooms in 34 cities. Key locations targeted for this rollout include major regions such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha.
These specific cities and states have been chosen strategically due to their large two-wheeler markets, which provide ample opportunities for expansion. This extensive network aims to ensure that VinFast’s electric scooters are accessible to a broad customer base.
Upcoming Electric Models
Although VinFast has yet to announce a definitive timeline for the launch of its electric models in India, it is expected that the initial offerings will include the recently patented Viper and Rasad e-scooters. The introduction of these models is anticipated to attract a significant number of consumers, especially in light of the growing interest in electric vehicles.
As of fiscal year 2025-2026, data indicates that there were 21.41 million two-wheelers registered in India, with electric vehicles making up only 6.54 percent of this number. VinFast’s entry into this market comes at a time when there is a noticeable shift towards electric mobility, although the company will face substantial competition from established manufacturers such as Bajaj, TVS, Hero, Suzuki, Yamaha, as well as innovative startups like Ather and River.
