Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to enhance its presence in the premium motorcycle segment over the next five months of the fiscal year. Despite its stronghold in the commuter bike market, the company holds less than 2 percent of the market share in larger-capacity segments. To address this, Hero plans to introduce new models, including the Karizma XMR 250 and a smaller Xpulse, which have already been spotted in earlier sightings. The Xpulse has experienced a significant retail growth of over 30 percent in the first half of FY27.
Upcoming Launches and Strategic Plans
The company aims to fill gaps in its premium motorcycle lineup with several upcoming launches. Following recent updates to the Xtreme 160R and Xtreme 250R, Hero’s strategy includes introducing three to four key models before the fiscal year ends. CEO Harshavardhan Chitale emphasized the focus on four main brands: Xtreme, Xpulse, Karizma, and motorcycles developed in collaboration with Harley-Davidson. The Sprint 440, an entry-level cruiser, was recently seen without camouflage and is expected to debut in India after its global reveal at EICMA 2026.
The Karizma range might also see new additions and updates, although specific details on the models, pricing, and launch dates remain undisclosed. The Karizma XMR 250, first showcased at EICMA 2024, is anticipated to launch soon, as undisguised images have surfaced multiple times recently.
Market Challenges and Growth Opportunities
Hero MotoCorp is striving to strengthen its standing in the premium segment, a challenge amplified by the rising demand for higher-capacity motorcycles. Data from SIAM indicates a 31 percent year-on-year increase in domestic dispatches for the 150-350cc category during H1 FY27, outpacing the 5 percent growth seen in the 100cc and 125cc commuter categories. Hero dispatched about 28,000 motorcycles in the 150-200cc range, whereas competitors like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto reported significantly higher sales in the same segment.
Anuj Dua, Chief Business Officer of the Premium Business Unit, highlighted the substantial growth potential for Hero in this market. The Xpulse range, in particular, has shown resilience, achieving over 30 percent retail growth and capturing more than 35 percent of its segment. A simpler, lower-capacity Xpulse model has also been spotted, suggesting an imminent launch, though Hero has yet to confirm this.
Expanding Dealership and Manufacturing Capacity
To support these new products, Hero is expanding its Premia dealership network, which currently includes around 150 stores. Plans are in place to further extend this network across key cities with strong demand for premium motorcycles. The company aims to foster community building at these dealerships, starting in December.
Hero has also bolstered its manufacturing capabilities, particularly at its Neemrana plant, to support its premium motorcycle strategy. CFO Vivek Anand noted that the company is committed to investing in new products, manufacturing capacity, and brand development to capture a larger market share, despite rising commodity costs impacting margins.
