Ducati has introduced the Desmo450 SM, a motorcycle that, while sharing its foundation with the Desmo450 MX, has undergone significant modifications to cater specifically to supermoto enthusiasts. This new model showcases a range of enhancements, particularly in its suspension system.
For the Desmo450 SM, Ducati collaborated with Showa to create a suspension system tailored for supermoto racing. This includes a Showa sealed cartridge 49mm USD fork which offers an impressive 280mm of travel, adjustable for both compression and rebound settings. The rear suspension features a monoshock with 295mm of travel, which is also fully adjustable to accommodate various riding styles.
In addition to suspension improvements, the Desmo450 SM has seen a redesign of several components. Handguards and fork guards have been streamlined to align with the supermoto discipline, and notably, this model is equipped with slick tires as standard, making it the first production Ducati to offer this feature. The motorcycle is fitted with a 16.5-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, utilizing a Bartubeless system that reduces the overall weight by 1.2kg, enhancing performance and handling.
Engine Performance and Maintenance
Powering the Desmo450 SM is a robust 449.6cc single-cylinder engine that produces 63.5 horsepower and 53.5Nm of torque. Ducati has designed this bike with serious riders in mind, particularly those engaged in competitive racing. Maintenance intervals reflect this focus, with recommendations suggesting an oil change every 15 hours of operation. Additionally, riders should check piston condition and valve clearances every 45 hours, and a complete engine overhaul is advised after 90 hours of riding.
The Desmo450 SM is set to make its debut in European markets starting December 2026, with plans for a global rollout to follow. In Italy, the retail price for this model is set at EUR 13,990 (approximately Rs 15.38 lakh). For comparison, the Desmo450 MX is priced at EUR 12,990 (around Rs 14.28 lakh) in Italy, whereas in India, it is available for Rs 17.28 lakh.
