Amid rising tensions, Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States, cautioning against any further military actions. Tehran’s latest statement follows its recent targeting of American warships, marking another chapter in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
Escalation in the Strait of Hormuz
The conflict, which has persisted for six months, remains at a stalemate with both parties entrenched in their positions. Iran continues to exert control over the vital Strait of Hormuz, while the US maintains a blockade on Iranian ports. Economic sanctions imposed by Washington aim to pressure Iran into submission by targeting entities with financial ties to the nation.
In a recent statement, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Iranian parliament speaker and chief negotiator in the conflict, declared that proportional responses from Tehran are a thing of the past. He emphasized that any threat to Iran’s interests or security would be met with swift and severe retaliation.
Military Exchanges and Retaliation
US Central Command (Centcom) reported that Iran had unsuccessfully fired upon two American vessels—a destroyer and an aircraft carrier. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the warships were forced to retreat after sustaining damage, though Centcom stated the attacks were evaded without incident.
In response, the US military targeted three oil tankers associated with the IRGC, alleging they were part of a shadow network funding regional proxies. The strikes resulted in significant damage, with one vessel disabled near Kharg Island, another near Jask, and a third destroyed in the Gulf of Oman.
Iran’s retaliation included attacks on three oil tankers on routes unauthorized by Tehran through the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC also claimed to have targeted a US naval drone, a claim dismissed by Centcom as false.
