Volvo Unveils EX90 Electric SUV Priced at Rs 1.26 Crore

volvo unveils ex90 electric suv priced at rs 126 crore

Volvo has introduced its latest electric SUV, the EX90, to the Indian market with a price tag of Rs 1.26 crore. This new model stands as the flagship offering from the Swedish automaker, surpassing its combustion-engine counterpart, the XC90, by Rs 27.2 lakh. This price difference is attributed to the EX90’s advanced technology and modern design, which marks a significant evolution from the decade-old XC90.

Launch Offers and Battery Specifications

In an effort to entice early buyers, Volvo is offering an introductory package for those who book the EX90 before December 31, 2026. This package includes an 11kW home charger, a three-year service plan, and a guaranteed buyback scheme, which promises 65 percent value retention after three years.

The EX90 is powered by a 106kWh battery pack that supports a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. This setup delivers 456 horsepower and 670Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. According to WLTP standards, the vehicle offers a range of 625 km. During testing, it was found that the EX90 achieved an efficiency of 5.5 km/kWh, translating to a practical range of approximately 580 km. For charging, an 11kW AC wallbox can fully charge the vehicle in about 11 hours, while fast charging via a DC source at up to 350kW can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.

Exterior and Design Features

The design of the EX90 reflects Volvo’s signature minimalist style, enhanced with contemporary elements. The SUV features T-shaped LED headlamps with distinctive pixel-like daytime running lights, and vertically positioned fog lamps. Absent is a traditional grille, replaced by a simple Volvo emblem and a trapezoidal air dam.

The side profile presents a streamlined look, featuring a 2,985mm wheelbase, 21-inch alloy wheels, and a 210mm ground clearance, which can be increased to 250mm thanks to standard air suspension. At the rear, C-shaped LED tail-lamps are connected by a black strip, and the Volvo name is prominently displayed on the bootlid. The EX90 is available in several colors, including Crystal White, Denim Blue, Mulberry Red, Onyx Black, Sand Dune, and Vapour Grey.

Interior and Technological Advancements

Inside, the EX90 continues Volvo’s minimalist approach with a clean dashboard layout. The cabin boasts luxurious two-tone Nappa leather, a brushed aluminium finish, and a massive 14.5-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen accompanied by a 9-inch driver’s display. Most controls are integrated into the touchscreen, minimizing physical buttons.

The EX90 is configured as a six-seater, featuring second-row captain’s chairs that offer ample space and comfort, albeit without electronic adjustments or additional functions like ventilation or massage, which are available in the front seats. The vehicle includes a panoramic sunroof with adjustable transparency but lacks rear window sunshades.

The third-row seats are accessible via the space between the captain’s chairs, suitable for children or brief adult use. Boot capacity is 324 litres with the third row up, expanding to 690 litres when folded down, plus an additional 46-litre frunk.

Additional features include four-zone climate control, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, ambient lighting, nine airbags, an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), wireless smartphone integration, a 360-degree camera, and more. Competing with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 and the Kia EV9, the EX90 is competitively priced below these rivals, with all prices being ex-showroom, India.
