Honda is gearing up for the launch of its first electric vehicle tailored for the Indian market, the 0 Alpha SUV, following the recent facelift of the Elevate model. The company is expected to unveil the official name later this year and may showcase the production-ready version prior to its anticipated sale in early 2027. Recently, a heavily camouflaged prototype of the 0 Alpha has been spotted undergoing testing on Indian roads.
This model will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan and is intended for global distribution, including markets like Japan.
Design and Features of the Honda 0 Alpha
The Honda 0 Alpha was initially previewed by a concept vehicle unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025. The latest spy images suggest that the design has remained faithful to the original concept. The prototype showcases a distinctive silhouette that diverges from Honda’s traditional aesthetics, featuring a near-vertical rear end and a prominent C-pillar reminiscent of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The rear section is characterized by a large windscreen likely to be complemented by an LED light bar, while the lower bumper appears to be protruding with features indicating a diffuser-like design. Honda previously indicated that the concept’s design was close to being production-ready, which implies that many aesthetic details, including lighting setups and glass panel designs, could be reflected in the final version.
Interior Insights and Specifications
Recent sightings of the 0 Alpha prototype have revealed glimpses of its interior layout. The cabin prominently features a sizable central infotainment touchscreen that is positioned prominently on the dashboard. Adjacent to this display is a smaller digital screen for the driver, and the vehicle is equipped with a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel that includes paddleshifters for regenerative braking.
Additionally, the interior design incorporates various buttons on the center console designed for functions such as climate control and ventilated seating, enhancing the overall user experience. The dimensions of the Honda 0 Alpha are expected to include a wheelbase of approximately 2700-2800 mm, prioritizing passenger comfort and maximizing interior space. The upright rear tailgate design further suggests ample luggage capacity.
Technical Aspects and Market Positioning
While detailed specifications for the 0 Alpha are still under wraps, Honda has confirmed the availability of two battery pack options, both utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, with capacities likely ranging from 65 kWh to 75 kWh. At its launch, the 0 Alpha SUV is anticipated to feature a single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration.
This upcoming electric SUV will be produced in India, with the Tapukara plant designated as its manufacturing hub. The model is expected to make its debut in early 2027, targeting key markets such as India and Japan. In terms of competition, the Honda 0 Alpha is set to rival various midsize electric SUVs, including the Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella.
