ISLAMABAD: Since the introduction of the Proof of Life certificate by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on August 20, 2026, an impressive total of over 337,000 pensioners have successfully obtained this essential document, as per the latest official statistics.
This certificate serves as an official verification that a pensioner is alive. NADRA has provided a detailed breakdown of how these certificates were acquired: 174,906 pensioners (52 percent) utilized the Pak ID app for a convenient home application, while 134,521 (40 percent) visited NADRA Registration Centres. Additionally, 24,248 (7 percent) accessed the service through e-Sahulat centres, and 3,585 (1 percent) made use of mobile registration vans.
Pensioners have the flexibility to obtain their Proof of Life certificate either online or by visiting a nearby NADRA service centre, depending on their preference. In light of some misleading information circulated by certain groups, NADRA has urged pensioners to disregard such rumors and instead reach out to the NADRA helpline, visit their nearest office, or go to an e-Sahulat centre for any inquiries or complaints.
Free Access and Multiple Channels
NADRA emphasized that if a pensioner’s CNIC number does not appear on the pensioner list, they should contact the relevant department for assistance. The Proof of Life Certificate was made available at no cost to pensioners on August 20, with access broadened through various channels nationwide.
This initiative was launched following special directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, Controller General of Accounts (CGA), and Military Accountant General (MAG).
According to NADRA, using the PakID mobile application is the most straightforward way for pensioners to obtain the certificate digitally from the comfort of their homes. An immediate family member can also secure the certificate on behalf of a pensioner using their own PakID account, adhering to the required identity verification protocols.
Assisted Services and Wider Access
For those who prefer in-person assistance, pensioners can acquire the certificate at no charge from over 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises and more than 988 NADRA Registration Centres and 500 Union Councils, where they receive priority service without the need to wait in line.
Pensioners who cannot physically reach a service point can take advantage of the accessibility offered through mobile registration vans, biker services, and ManPack registration services, which are designed for individuals with mobility challenges or limited access.
The Proof of Life certificate initiative forms part of a broader reform wherein NADRA has introduced a National Pensioners Register. In the first phase, pensioners under the administration of CGA and MAG have been enrolled on this register, providing a verified digital reference for identity and life-status checks.
Future Developments and Digital Services
A distinct verification service is also available for banks, enabling authorized financial institutions to directly verify a pensioner’s proof-of-life status through the National Pensioners Register. This advancement aims to streamline the pension disbursement process by minimizing the need for repeated physical or paper-based verifications.
NADRA anticipates that the register will be expanded in subsequent phases to incorporate pensioners from other federal and provincial government bodies, public-sector organizations, and private entities, once agreements and institutional arrangements are finalized.
