JLR has introduced the Range Rover Sport Electric, marking the debut of an all-electric variant in the Range Rover Sport series. The SUV, now available for pre-order in India, features a robust 118.5kWh battery pack, paralleling the one used in the Range Rover Electric but promising a slightly extended WLTP range of 609 kilometers.
Advanced Powertrain and Performance
The Range Rover Sport Electric is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, which provides performance comparable to the V8-powered Range Rover Sport. This setup generates an impressive 550hp and 850Nm of torque, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
Constructed on JLR’s 800-volt Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex), the SUV supports DC fast charging up to 350kW. This allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes, with a quick 10-minute charge adding up to 220km of range.
Design and Structural Features
While the exterior design of the Range Rover Sport Electric closely resembles its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, it showcases several unique features. These include sleek LED headlights, an aero-optimised black grille, and functional air inlets. The SUV also boasts up to 22-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic inserts.
The electric variant features a 61% stiffer body structure and a center of gravity that is 73mm lower than the ICE version. The suspension is a sophisticated setup with double wishbones at the front, a five-link arrangement at the rear, and includes air suspension, twin-valve dampers, and all-wheel steering.
Interior and Technology
The interior of the Range Rover Sport Electric mirrors that of the ICE model, featuring a three-spoke steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 13.7-inch digital driver’s display. The cabin retains a five-seat layout and offers amenities such as a wireless phone charger, 4-zone climate control, and heated and ventilated seats for all passengers.
Market Launch and Pricing
Scheduled to launch in India by March 2027, the Range Rover Sport Electric is anticipated to be priced at approximately Rs 2.5 crore. As a fully imported model, it will not benefit from tariff concessions under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. This pricing positions it as a premium offering compared to the current ICE-powered Range Rover Sport.
