Triumph has officially introduced the Bonneville T40, a motorcycle that combines classic aesthetics with modern engineering elements. Beneath its vintage-inspired exterior, the T40 incorporates features from its sibling models while maintaining unique characteristics that set it apart.
This India-specific model is powered by a 350cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, producing 29hp at 7,000rpm and 31.2Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. These performance figures closely resemble those of the Speed T4, showcasing Triumph’s commitment to delivering power alongside style.
Design and Specifications
In keeping with the Bonneville legacy, the T40 is equipped with wire-spoke wheels fitted with MRF tyres, which have been specially designed for this model. Notably, there is no option for tubeless tyres. The front tyre measures 100/90-18, while the rear tyre is a larger 150/70-R18.
With a weight of 195kg, the T40 is the heaviest among the Bajaj-manufactured Triumph models. However, it compensates for this with a generous fuel tank capacity of 14.5 litres, the largest in its class. The motorcycle features a seat height of 790mm, making it accessible to a broader range of riders, along with a commendable ground clearance of 165mm.
Advanced Features
One of the standout features of the Bonneville T40 is its introduction of a new round 4-inch colour TFT display. This display manages various riding aids, including five different riding modes, anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control, and cruise control. Additionally, it includes a ‘Heritage’ mode, providing a nod to the brand’s legacy.
For tech-savvy riders, the display allows for smartphone pairing, enabling navigation information to be displayed directly on the screen, enhancing the riding experience.
Pricing and Variants
With a price tag of Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Bonneville T40 and its variant, the T40 Black, are positioned at a premium compared to their direct competitors. In fact, the T40 is priced higher than the base version of the newly released Honda CB500.
Additionally, Triumph offers a lower-spec version, the Bonneville T4, which is available exclusively in the Indian market. This model features a colour LCD display with turn-by-turn navigation, ride modes, and dual-channel ABS, but it lacks cruise control and the inertial measurement unit (IMU). The T4 variant is priced at Rs 2.55 lakh.
