volvo ex90 set to make its debut tomorrow

Volvo India is gearing up for the launch of its highly anticipated electric SUV, the EX90, scheduled for October 12, 2026. This flagship model will be introduced alongside the ES90 sedan, both built on Volvo’s innovative SPA2 platform designed specifically for electric vehicles. The EX90 is expected to take a prominent position in Volvo’s lineup, surpassing the brand’s existing electric offerings, including the EX30 and EC40.

Marketed as a fully electric alternative to the conventional internal combustion engine XC90, the EX90 is set to attract significant attention from potential buyers. Below are crucial details regarding its expected pricing, competitors, performance specifications, and design.

Price and Competitors

The anticipated price range for the Volvo EX90 is between Rs 1.4 crore and Rs 1.5 crore, ex-showroom. This places it in direct competition with luxury electric vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Kia EV9. As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, the EX90 aims to carve out its niche among these formidable rivals.

Performance Specifications

For the Indian market, the EX90 will be offered in a single, fully-equipped variant. It will feature a robust 106kWh battery that works in tandem with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. This combination generates an impressive 456 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. Volvo claims a WLTP-certified range of 625 kilometers, with real-world usage reportedly delivering around 530 kilometers.

In terms of charging capabilities, the EX90 can handle AC charging at 11kW, requiring approximately 11 hours to reach a full charge from zero. On the faster end, it supports DC charging at rates up to 350kW due to its advanced 800V architecture.

Exterior Design

Consistent with Volvo’s design philosophy, the EX90 features a subtle yet sophisticated exterior that distinguishes it from the XC90. The front end showcases LED daytime running lights with distinctive ‘Thor’s Hammer’ motifs that pivot to unveil the headlight units. The grille has a sleek, blanked-off look, prominently displaying the Volvo emblem in the center, flanked by DRL strips and a trapezoidal air intake beneath.

The side profile highlights smooth door surfaces, flush handles, a gracefully ascending window line, and stylish 21-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear design includes split LED tail lamps with C-shaped lights and vertically aligned strips on the D-pillar, complemented by minimalistic cladding and a glossy finish on the lower bumper. The EX90 offers a boot capacity of 324 liters with the third row in use and expands to 690 liters when the seats are folded down.

Interior Features

Inside, the EX90 boasts a minimalist interior with a chic two-tone grey and white color scheme. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum to enhance its sleek aesthetic, while a large vertically oriented infotainment display takes center stage on the dashboard. The cabin is adorned with open-pore wood and brushed aluminum accents, and the seating is covered in Nappa leather for a touch of luxury.

Additionally, the center console includes a wireless phone charging station and a rotary control for media functions. The vehicle is designed as a six-seater with a 2+2+2 layout, featuring captain chairs in the middle row for added comfort.

Advanced Features

The Volvo EX90 is equipped with an impressive array of features, including a 14.5-inch infotainment system powered by Google, a 9-inch digital driver’s display, and a premium 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Other notable amenities include powered, ventilated, and massaging front seats, an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, and a four-zone climate control system.

Safety is a top priority for Volvo, and the EX90 comes packed with advanced safety features such as nine airbags, an array of driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and automatic parking capabilities, ensuring peace of mind for all occupants.
