Volkswagen is gearing up for the debut of its all-electric ID Tiguan, which is set to be revealed in early October. This new electric SUV will be available to global markets starting in early 2027. While the ID Tiguan will take its place in the electric lineup, the traditional Tiguan will still be offered with both combustion engines and hybrid options worldwide.
Replacing the ID 4 and ID 5, the ID Tiguan is anticipated to provide a spacious interior for its passengers. The SUV is likely to feature two battery configurations: a 58kWh and a 77kWh option, similar to its predecessor, the ID 4.
Design Features of the ID Tiguan
The upcoming ID Tiguan will showcase a fresh exterior design, characterized by sleeker headlights and an updated rear light style. Additionally, the vehicle will offer alloy wheels that can measure up to 21 inches. It will be 44mm longer than the ID 4, enhancing the overall cabin space.
For context, the ID 4 measures 4,584mm in length, 1,852mm in width, and 1,639mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,765mm. Although Volkswagen has yet to disclose all details regarding the interior, the ID Tiguan is expected to feature a more spacious layout along with advanced technology. Notably, it may reintroduce physical controls for certain functionalities, including buttons on the steering wheel and dedicated controls on the dashboard.
Battery Options and Performance Expectations
The ID Tiguan will utilize Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, which also supports the ID Polo and Skoda Epiq. It is expected to offer the same battery options as the ID 4, including a 58kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery and a 77kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt variant. The entry-level model will likely come equipped with the smaller battery, while the 77kWh version is anticipated for the Pro and dual-motor Pro 4Motion trims.
For reference, the ID 4’s 58kWh battery provides a claimed WLTP range of up to 364 kilometers, whereas the larger 77kWh battery can achieve between 512 kilometers and 572 kilometers, depending on the specific variant. Power outputs for the ID 4 range from 170 to 340 horsepower, influenced by the chosen battery, motor, and variant. As of now, Volkswagen has not finalized the specifications for the production version of the ID Tiguan, including its anticipated range and peak power outputs.
